the travel diaries: B A T H ✨

Coming back to work after over a week off has been a struggle - let me tell you that now. But whilst I was enjoying my week off, Christopher and I decided to take a weekend trip to Bath, a place that neither of us had been to before - and we thought why the hell don't we go away for the weekend? So we drove down on Friday night, and came home late Sunday morning.

Friday night, by the time we got to the Air BNB we stayed in, it was about 11:30pm so we went just went straight to bed. Because we'd been to the midnight showing of Justice League the night before we were quite tired, and because we're both really old and can't handle getting in at 3am and not being tucked up in bed by 11 o'clock.

Then we woke up on Saturday and then drove into the centre Bath, parked the car and then we went to Patisserie Valerie for a little bit of breakfast after walking around the shops and deciding how we were going to spend the day.

We did the Roman Baths, paid for our tickets and had a little look around which was quite interesting.  Obviously you could go into the spa that was around the corner but when we walked past the queue was huge! We hadn't thought that far ahead and Saturday is probably not the best day to go when it's really busy, so we left it - but then we can always go back!

We then did a little bit more walking around the town centre, we went in a few more shops. I bought some tiny baubles from Paperchase that I've put up in my room on my string of photos and a few postcards because if you don't know I'm a huuuge postcard hoarder - yeah I'm not sure why either. 🀷🏼‍♀️

We took a little walk to the Circus, to the Royal Crescent and then we stopped in a pub for a drink and headed to another small cosy pub for lunch. Then we headed back to our Airbnb after more walking around. And ohmygod, I had no idea that Bath has an Anthropologie shop!! It was heaven, and why do I not have my own house that I can FILL with their homeware?? 😱

Bath was a lovely city, we had a lovely weekend and it was such a shame that the Christmas markets weren't open because that would have been so dreamy and festive! πŸŽ…πŸΌ although we did get to see the lights coming on as it got darker in the early evening. We then went back to our Airbnb where we  watched some TV, played against each other on Mario Kart and I then went to bed early because I felt   poorly and full of cold/

We drove back early on Sunday morning, stopping at a Starbucks when we got stuck in a little bit of traffic and spent the rest of the day chilling out at Chris', playing games, watching TV and then we watched the first episode of I'm a Celeb - which I'm actually watching too as I write this, I'm obsessed. πŸ›

Deffo would recommend Bath for a weekend trip away, and can we talk about how pretty the buildings are? 😍

Enjoy the snaps. πŸ“Έ✌🏼

☃️ 37 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT WINTER ☃️

Y'know how some people are like in love with the summer months, they live for the hot(ish) weather that we get very occasionally and they cannot wait for that pub-garden-after-work time-let's-have-a-cider time of year?

That's not me. Act like a wasteman...?πŸ˜‚

I'm excited for the summer to roll around (eventually), don't get me wrong. But I just love winter so much, I love it when it's cold, I love the build up to Christmas and I even love the dark mornings and early dusk. Not such a fan of de-icing my car in the morning, but it is all swings and roundabouts after all.

πŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸ I made a post like this last year, about autumn - which you can read by clicking here πŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸ

Read on for a list of 37 things I love about winter...

Every single jumper I own can come out of the storage box, baggy, cosy, fluffy, Christmas... the list goes on

Fireworks on bonfire night

Wrapping up warm, scarves, gloves, hats, a new coat - it's the perfect excuse to go shopping

Starbucks Christmas drinks ☕️

Having nights in, snuggling up with a hot drink and Netflix

When the sky is grey, but the shine is shining... one of those days

New winter PJs - Next know where it IS AT with their Christmas jarmies

Cosy slippers, dressing gowns, fluffy blankets

the central heating will go on, yaaas. I've only been waiting since bloody September. ☃️

Those lush winter walks where the air is so crisp and cold

Waking up to frosty/foggy mornings πŸŒ¬❄️

The feeling it's getting closer to Christmas πŸŽ„

When the shops bring out everything seasonal and it's just the best thing ever

Starting to play Christmas music. I mean Novembers not too early right? πŸŽ…πŸΌ

Dark red nails and lips

THIS coat I bought from Primark, it's the cosiest coat EVER.

the winter playlist coming out of hiding... oh and the Christmas one obvo

Buying one hundred thousand Christmas jumpers. My name's Danielle and I'm a Christmas jumper addict.

More time spent indoors, spending time with family.

Board Games - why do they only come out this time of year?? Board games all year round please.

Ice skating - I'm not very good but it's the taking part that counts, amIright? ⛸

Shopping for a Christmas Day outfit, I can't be the only person that does this.

Cold enough weather for hats. Every girl should own at least 5924321 bobble hats.

Buying fluffy socks from Primark, cause they're less that £2 and will last forever (or until next winter)

Cosy evenings spent at the pub πŸ₯‚πŸ»

Roast dinners - it's just not the same in the summer. I'm sorry, I said it.

Christmas Markets and the beginning of Winter Wonderland.

That people won't judge me for wearing a Christmas pudding hat.

Cuddling up underneath a REALLY heavy duvet and every single fluffy blanket you own.

Mumma Debs' homemade leek and potato soup. It's the best thing on a chilly day. 🍡

Fairy lights and candles πŸ•―

Wearing tights. I rarely ever wear dresses in the summer, but the winter months are where it's at. Especially a cosy knitted dress.

The new year approaching. 2018, I'm ready.

The heated blanket we have at work. Having a massage on that couch is just wonderful.

Buying other people's Christmas presents 🎁

Deciding a wrapping paper theme. I mean, they've just got to match.

Driving round to look at Christmas lights. It should be acceptable to put them up inNovember, jussaying.

What do you love most about winter?

WHAT WE ATE AT TURTLE BAY 🍴

Last weekend I was kindly offered the chance to try out Turtle Bay's new restaurant that opened at the end of September in Northampton, and I was so excited. We went on Sunday afternoon and I took along my boyfriend Christopher, my sister Abi and her boyfriend Dave.

After visiting Turtle Bay for the VIP Preview evening, which y'know if you haven't read it already you can read it here πŸ˜‰, I couldn't wait to go back and try out even more food and even more cocktails. Our table was booked for 3pm and although it was a weekend, it wasn't overly busy but when we left a few hours later it was starting to fill up with people coming in for drinks.

It was also 2-for-1 on cocktails until 7pm where it stopped and started again at 10pm. I mean, you just can't go wrong. Our waitress came over to the table, where she took our drink orders, and then came back a few minutes later to take our food orders. I didn't get her name, but she was really lovely and was helpful when we were ordering by offering to recommend when we were struggling to decide.

Chris was driving so he opted for the Passion Fruit Cooler, I went for the Reggae Raspberry cocktail, and was offered the choice between vodka or rum. I chose vodka because I prefer it to rum. I cannot deal with drinking anything that's not sweet, so this was definitely the cocktail for me! 🍹

Abi went for the Vanilla and Passionfruit Mojito and Dave asked for a Red Stripe but they didn't have any so he went for a live Caribbean beer. Once he'd drank that he went up to get himself a mojito, which means that he got two - I am living for the 2-for-1 cocktails, seriously.

The starters arrived quickly just after the drinks, everybody else went for fish. Abi had prawns and Dave and Chris both had the squid. I went for the duck rolls because I don't like fish. 🐟 I had my eye on the garlic and herb flatbread, but I wanted to go for something that was a little bit different that what I would normally order and try something new. The duck rolls were really nice although a little bit spicy, but not too much to spoil it for me.

Ever since the Preview Evening when I was sent the Turtle Bay menu, I've had my eye on the Jerk 'N' Pull Pork Bun with sweet potato fries and Turtle Bay's Caribbean slaw and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I love pulled pork so there was no doubt about whether I would enjoy the food or not and inside the bun it also had a sweet onion chutney and herb mayo - so dreamy. Next time I go to Turtle Bay, I might have to try one of the curries another time though, they do look delicious.

Abi went for the the Babyback Pork Ribs with sweet potatoes fries, and she's a bit like me, we don't do massively spicy food, so she chose the pineapple glaze. Dave chose the Jerk Chicken, he went for a half chicken with the classic jerk glaze, and he went for spiced fries. Chris picked the Prawn &Mango Wrap from the Lunch 'N' Lighter section of the menu, also with spiced fries.

As mentioned in previous blog posts, I am a huge fan of dessert. Give me anything sweet and I'll be happy. After trying the taster desserts last time, I had my heart set on the Dark Chocolate Brownie so that's what Chris and I ordered. If you're a massive chocolate lover, I would highly recommend ordering this! We had ours served with coconut ice cream, which I don't know is a regular thing because on the menu it said vanilla, but the coconut was still good and it did compliment the brownie.

Dave ordered Caymanas Upside Down Rum Cake, which we all tried because Dave's not a huge desserts person, and it was really tasty. You could definitely taste the rum so it wouldn't have been my  favourite choice of dessert - I'm a chocolate girl obvo. I did enjoy the little bit I did try though. I had tasted the brownie and the cheesecake that Abi ordered before, so it was nice to try the Rum Cake which was something new. Abi had the Banana and Toffee Cheesecake - if you're into that kinda thing this will be your new fave dessert, trust me. 😍

I cannot wait to get back to Turtle Bay for cocktails, more delicious and intriguing food and even more delicious desserts. There's such a chilled out vibe and for me it was the perfect way to end the weekend and get ready for a busy week ahead. I love the interior with all of the fairy lights and bright colours, the staff were all really friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

I'd like to thank the team at Turtle Bay Northampton for letting us all come along and trial the menu and the cocktails and also to Maya and Cat for making this possible. πŸ˜

Have you been to Turtle Bay in Northampton yet? What do you think of the menu?
